Comcept 32 – Halo Over Sunset City

Welcome to SUNSET CITY! This one was a pure just for fun project. I was fiddling around in Vue when I stumbled over some atmosphere settings that created a solar eclipse kind of look. I thoroughly enjoyed that look and started to randomly add some buildings. That quickly turned into kitbashing all kinds of stuff into the scene… which lead to the results we can see in the final piece now. No specific story for this one. From what it looks like it appears to be some sort of space/port hub structure. Surely a place that could easily write its own stories – good and bad.

Com-cept 22 (Sowig.net ACC Contest Winner 2015)

Com-cept 22

Much like all the other pictures in my Com-cept series, this one was an experiment, with using some rather unusual techniques for my work. I wanted to try myself on something more rough looking while at the same time trying to bring a solid composition and a certain amount of detail. Most of my other work is detailed to the pixel due to heavy use of 3d rendered plates. Even though I used a 3d plate for the landscape here too, I wanted to focus more on efficiency instead of diving into too much detail. More painting than pixel perfect 3d. I wanted to try my luck with the Sowig.net contest I discovered rather late and had to rush a couple of things. So obviously there could have been done a little more refining. =) I never expected to win that contest… which shows me that I did at least some things right with this picture.

HOME HAVEN

This one originally was a concept art commission that didn’t exactly hit the taste of the client. I maintained the rougher look but still tried to polish it up a little more for my own gallery here. It was definitely something new to try and a typical ‘learning’ project. Target was it to create a place where some sort of sea nomads find a haven. The city itself is kinda modular and able to split up to move elsewhere. I personally am not the biggest fan of the pic but i still somehow like how it turned out. No question a worthy submission for my page anyway. Hope you guys like it!

Strange News (From Another Planet)

STRANGE NEWS

Project name for this one was ‘assimilated’ until i found a title i had to use for this one. Now imagine mankind will make it some day… and meet other lifeforms (in peace!). How would a technological mix would visually break down the look of a city, that shares human as well as alien technology in its architecture? Of course this is all speculative and imaginary. The title i used is actually a 16min song that followed me through the making of this picture. “…And you will know us by the trail of dead” – Album: Tao Of The Dead. Awesome piece of music. My recommendation.

Now this one is a perfect example of a painter who has no idea what he’s doing. He’s letting guide himself from what the pic tells him. Excited like a little kid playing hide and seek. Well i basically just sat down and played with brushes and Photoshop. This time i used a plate i shot a few years ago in Berlin. I always knew this material could be useful someday. Now i finally found use for it. I’m pretty surprised what came off of it. Since pretty much nothing of the actual plate is left. Looking back at what i did so far, this pic surely has a unique approach and feel to it.

I think i got a little inspired by the style of concept guys like Sparth or Syd Mead. Everything Photoshop this time. No Vue or 3d elements in here. Well… not exactly. I created some brushes off of some of my scifi Vue buildings. That worked not bad here. The basic pic was done after 2 or 3 days. A lot of time went into (pretty much unnecessary) fine tuning. I had the time and used it to polish certain areas a little more than others. Just for fun.

I personally would say it’s one of my best pics. Really enjoyed making it. Hope you enjoy the view too!

Com-cept 14

I finished this quite a while ago and finally i got it onto my page. All the time i was thinking about what else i could add to make it even more interesting. Stuff like that can be a trap. Instead of realizing that the pic is pretty much done you keep thinking and thinking. In the end this is a rare pic to find in my gallery. I can’t remember many night scenes i did so far. It’s not that it’s difficult to do them. Somehow i’m more the evening or morning type with my paintings. This picture here has quite some nice details and atmosphere. Could be a scene straight out of Total Recall or Blade Runner.

Comcept 16

Yet another comcept piece for the series. Like comcept 15 it’s a test with Vue and some new plant models. Again i tried to bring in variety and chaos without to lose the eye for a somewhat good composition. All this just for fun. I like this more than the pevious comcept piece. I think the lighting works better here and the overall look feels a bit magic. Maybe my imagination plays tricks on me here. I used the multipass images Vue created for this one to get more detail off the shadowy areas. That worked very nice and created more volume on the textures… if that makes any sense. =D However… i like this one.

That said… i hope you guys enjoy the Wallpaper Pack. 1680×1050 & 1920×1200 version of the scene. Have fun with it!

Comcept 15 – Ruins

Comcept 15 – Ruins

A while ago i updated my 3d package with a few new plant models for Vue. AsileFX has quite a nice collection there. It’s also easy to modify and allows me more creative freedom and variety. This picture represents my first work with these new plant species. I really threw them in there to get a feeling for them. How they work in composition… how they look… how they react with my workflow. Due to the higher detail of the plants the rendertimes went up a bit too. But still alright for my machine. I learned a lot patience over the last years. The result of this little intermezzo my not be the most exciting but the wallpaper looks pretty nice. That’s why i decided to put it up for you.

I can’t deny that i was inspired a bit by the Avatar movie. I wanted thick foliage and decided to put some exotic looking structure into the mountain in the back. Maybe it’s some old alien building of sorts. Thousands of years old. Waiting to be discovered. *dark voice* Waiting to unleash its secret daaaark powers! */dark voice* Whatever that means. =D

That said… i hope you guys enjoy the Wallpaper Pack. 2 different versions of the scene in 1680×1050. Have fun with it!

Windows 7 Themepack Update

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

tigaer-design.com newsIt’s time to make downloading of wallpapers even more comfortable than it already was! The future! New alternatives! New hopes! New dreams! Alright… enough advertising phrases for now. Windows 7 has that one unique feature that allows you do create your own Wallpaper Packs! People can download and doubleclick these and *kaboom* Windows automatically applies the pack and its settings! I really dig that. That’s why i decided to create some packs for selected artworks in my gallery from time to time. All at once would be boring right? ;) However. In these packs i try to cover all possible standard resolutions. So it’s surely worth a look. I thought that Fractal and Abstract pictures, which work magnificient as wallpapers, are the perfect start for this collection. For now you can find Themepacks for the following pieces:

windows 7 themepack

Windows 7 ‘HRT‘ Theme Pack

windows 7 themepack

Windows 7 ‘Synchrotone‘ Theme Pack

windows 7 themepack

Windows 7 ‘Solitude In Chaos‘ Theme Pack

windows 7 themepack

Windows 7 ‘Where Is My Mind‘ Theme Pack

windows 7 themepack

Windows 7 ‘Hades – Valiant‘ Theme Pack

All pictures in this Theme Pack are copyrighted by tigaer-design.com and may not used or reproduced without permission. Thank you very much.

I hope you like it. Stay Tuned for more! Thank you.

Walk In Dreams

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

tigaer-design.com newsIn the the past months i did a few concepts for a shortmovie script of a colleague. He wants to use these pics to promote his idea. The script is indeed very good and offers quite some eyecatchers. I got contacted to visualize some of the environments. Technically i can say that i did me a base Vue render i manipulated in Photoshop to get me the right results. Pretty much the technique i’m using on almost every project these days. It was a nice break from the sci-fi’ish things i had created simultaneously for other projects. Now i hope i was able to visually capture some of the ideas from the script. Ultimately i think they work pretty good. Feel free to click on the pics for a larger version.
