EvE Online: Create A Starship Contest

I’m proud to say that i’m, unexpectedly, one of the winners of the contest. I always was a big fan of the look and design of EvE Online. For years i wanted to try it out and last year i did it. I did not regret it. Even if i learned that it can eat your life away. That’s why i’m currently taking a break from it. So much to see there… so much to do and sooooo much to learn there. It’s a lot of fun. Now when i created my ship design i haven’t played a lot of the game. Only a few tiny glimpses of how big it really is. So i did not have a real feel for the different races and designs yet. Nonetheless i wanted to try myself on it. And so i did. I must admit though that i did not expect AT ALL to win anything… seeing all these great submissions that were posted to the contest. When the confirmation mail came in i almost deleted it, thinking it was spam. Luckily i took a closer look.

Myriad Industrial Carrier Design

With my entry (above) the following designs managed to win:

Alexey M (Winner of the Grand Prize) – Mentor Battlecruiser

Eric A – Oblivion Battlecruiser

Shawn N – Amarr Command Ship Battlecruiser

Eric A – Serval Battlecruiser

Beside my congratulations to the other winning designers i want to mention the 40 designs that made it into the final round of voting. I urge you to check them out if you’re a Scifi fan. All of them look really really cool! Find them HERE.

Technically i created the basic ship design and shape with help of ZBrush. Still a lot to learn there. In Photoshop i added texture and details to the hull. When it comes to EvE specific design then i would say it’s a Caldari or Gallente ship. The background of the pic is one of my Vue scenes. I haven’t released that pic yet. It’s collecting dust here somewhere on my HD.

Concept Art Update #5

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

concept art

Yet again it’s been a while with concept art gallery additions. Like stated in previous update posts i revamped the concept art gallery. It looked evil and should make a better impression now. Beside the structural update i also cleaned up the exhibited pics and added quite some new additions to the team. Everything quickies, sketches and just for fun. Hope it gives some inspiration to you guys. I can say that it would be a blast to fly around with some of the ships in there. :D

Gallery Restructuring

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

tigaer-design.com newsIt’s been a while since my last update on the site. The concept art gallery never looked really nice so i decided to update it over the next few days. Nothing special to be honest. I just want it to be a more pleasant viewing experience than it previously was. I will also take this opportunity to remove and add some pics. I hope it works out and will let you know when it’s done.

Walk In Dreams

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

tigaer-design.com newsIn the the past months i did a few concepts for a shortmovie script of a colleague. He wants to use these pics to promote his idea. The script is indeed very good and offers quite some eyecatchers. I got contacted to visualize some of the environments. Technically i can say that i did me a base Vue render i manipulated in Photoshop to get me the right results. Pretty much the technique i’m using on almost every project these days. It was a nice break from the sci-fi’ish things i had created simultaneously for other projects. Now i hope i was able to visually capture some of the ideas from the script. Ultimately i think they work pretty good. Feel free to click on the pics for a larger version.

Concept Art Update #4

concept art

And again it’s been a while with concept art gallery additions. This time i added 7 new pics. Ships, stations, scenes and speeders. I’m also thinking about redoing this gallery. It looks a bit clunky right now. On the other hand i don’t have too much time recently. We’ll see! :) For now i hope you can find some more inspiration in that gallery.

Concept Art Update #3

concept art

And again it’s been a while with concept art gallery additions. I took me some time to add a few new things to it. Transporters, fighters and a scene sketch. I should do more in that direction but time is a precious thing. Hope you get some inspiration there! Have fun.

Photorealism please? Well, almost there…!

conceptart

This is a Vue testrender i did a few days ago. I dug myself a bit deeper into Vue’s possibilities over the last few days and learned a lot of nice new things. Most importantly that the values in Vue’s options often are not limited to the values the according sliders give/allow you. Especially for fog or aerial perspective… you can use much much higher values than 10 or 100%. I did not notice that to be honest. Now with the right values you can really create something pretty! ‘Almost’ photorealistic… with the right cpu power and enough ram. Check out the pic by clicking on it and you will get a larger version. It’s 80% Vue and 20% Photoshop in there. I couldn’t resist pimping that pic up a bit. =) It’s been a bit quiet with digital art here… but i’m back on track!

Concept Art – CDS12032009 – Creation Process

conceptart

CDS12032009 – Creation Process – High Quality – Here we go with a cityscape kind of thing. We use perspective lines that help us to keep everythng straight and somewhat realistic looking. At least in perspective. The painting, of course, is very loose. I also tried to get in some colors. I kinda like the result of this one! Hope you too. =)

Depending on how the juices flow it’s 30/60mins time in these designs.

Have Fun!

Hope you can get some inspiration off of this. =)

conceptart

CDS26022009 – Creation Process – High Quality – And another one! This time a ship design again. I tried to do a something more exotic look here and i think i nailed it pretty good. I’d say it’s some sort of organic technology we see here. That’s at least what the insectoid look makes you think.

Hope you like! =) Next vid will be an environment again! Something futuristic! Stay tuned…

Depending on how the juices flow it’s 30/60mins time in these designs.

Have Fun!

Hope you can get some inspiration off of this. =)

conceptart

CDS24022009 – Creation Process – High Quality – Like the previous shorts this one was also a test to find the right settings for screen recording. Here we have me trying so do some abstract landscape stuff. It was fun and i should do more stuff like this. This time i also changed the Photoshop setup so you people can see a bit what’s happening in the palettes.

Depending on how the juices flow it’s 30/60mins time in these designs.

Have Fun!

Hope you can get some inspiration off of this. =)
