Photo Finish Dude & Exhibition

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

tigaer-design.com newsOver the last few weeks i’m concentrating on an exhibition i’ll soon have in my old hometown bitterfeld, saxony – anhalt, germany the 4th july to 24th of august. This time it’s a pure photo exhibition about my captured beauty series. A dear friend of mine is organizing all the little details while i’m preparing the photos and presentation. Because of that i’m shooting up a few additions to my photo gallery over the next few days. This means tons of wallpaper too! =)

Precise details to the exhibition will follow.

HADES – VALIANT

Hades – Valiant

The second image of the ‘hades‘ project, and the one i really (i mean really) like. When i worked on the first image i had the idea with trying to show the same scene from another perspective. Clearly the hero objects are the huge antigrav towers again. First of all i just wanted to see if i can pull it off… and secondly i thought this would add much more depth and credibility to the concept of the world itself. I intended to create that scene similar violent as the first one but ended up with a more peaceful sunset/backlit setup. I’m a fan. And even if there already is so much stuff in my gallery, with a similar light setup, i think this one became something special nonetheless.

Basic 3d plate rendered in VUE and heavily manipulated in photoshop. The fact that i could drag over the resources from the first project, made it very easy to get the stuff done.

ALIENIZED 3

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

I recently cleaned up my photo archive a bit and found this cute little thing in it. It’s from a session aaaaages ago… almost 2yrs now i think. I was playing around with the shot and suddenly i saw a snail in it. Very abstract of course.

What if this were a creature on a desert planet which lives only like 4 weeks or so. What it does to survive is carrying around two, very precious, water droplets over these 4 weeks. Therefor this creature only lives in very special places.

Well heh, i would love the idea to have captured a creature no one else has ever seen before. *eyes* Maybe i did here. *eyes eyes*

*the usual equipment: canon 20d, sigma 105mm macro
*no digital manips except color enhancement, sharpening

HADES – SAEVITIA

Hades – Saevitia

Saevitia was the first picture i finished in my ‘hades‘ project. I wanted a really dangerous looking atmosphere on that planet and did go for warning red colors there. Right from the beginning i knew this is a concept project. No full blown, detailed, monster painting like i did with EPICA for example. Another thing i knew right from the beginning was that i wanted to bring in these hovering flat structures in the sky. Basically these things are cities… but upside down. Antigrav generators keep the whole structure in the air. I cannot really tell why this planet got colonized in the first place… maybe it was an industrial cause. That would explain the dirty, technology look. So yes, as you can see… a lot of experimental stuff.

Hades Is Waiting

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

tigaer-design.com newsConcentrating on concept art these days. Trying to find a quick, dirty but yet nicely working technique. I’m playing a lot with filters and texturing within photoshop. Therefor i started ‘hades’. A small project which inspiration comes from, first of all, the 2019 L.A. seen in blade runner. (Got me the 5 disc final cut edition… if you’re a fan… no way around it. GET IT!) Another source was the planet hades in a game named privateer 2 from… 1996 or so? Those were the days! So yes, it’s cityscapes again. Two pieces showing a scene from different perspectives. One shows that it’s a pretty intense, atmospherically voilent environment. The other looks a bit more peaceful, with a perspective from within the city environment. Both made over the last 7 days, which is pretty fast for me. And one of them turned out to be one of my alltime favs. The artworks, along with wallpapers, will be available soon. Stay tuned!

CB_wp – Veronica

Say hello to veronica. Yes, a name! For a very long time now i’m thinking about the names i use in my captured beauty series, which are mostly plain numbers. Boring wouldn’t you agree? So in addition to the usual numbers concept i am also using real names now. Not only to fix the name problem and bring in some emotion there… it’s also thought to help me oriantate myself within the series in the future. So well yes, this basically is another addition to my captured beauty series. Not much done to the shot itself except some basic cleanup and that’s it. Beauty straight out of the lens.

EPICA

EPICA

Alright! Here we are. This is the largest project i did for quite a while. A lot of experimenting went into this monster. Trial and error… as usual. The scene shows quite an epic futuristic cityscape. Actually no too big story behind it. Just the imagination of mine that always wants to see such big and amazing vistas. ‘City of lights‘, an earlier project of mine, was a first try at such scenes. The light scheme is almost the same too. Just love this lighting setup.

I started this project in c4d and used some basic models for futuristic looking buildings and modified them. Then i moved the objects into vue and arranged the scene. Quite some work went into the setup there, where to place what, and so on. Also, a very important thing, was the lighting of the scene. As usual i did go for the drama… a backlit situation with some cool contrast going on. I don’t even know anymore how long it took too render. Something like 15hrs to render the base picture. Rendered several times until i got it right. In photoshop i added the lights, windows and atmosphere. And i tell you people… i’m done with lights and windows for now. You can be assured that 85% of the lights in there… are placed and revised by hand. A lot of precision work went into that stage. Also altered the buildings with details to make them look not too uniform. Long story short a lot of work went into this. Basically worked on it since february. With longer breaks though.

ENLIGHTENED

ENLIGHTENED

A book cover commission i recently finished. The project was a slow burn. But as soon as we figured out what exactly we wanted and how i could realize the idea… everything went fine. I have had a very hard time with the characters, since i’m not a character designer at all. The base, as you might be able to see, was 3d. Then i moved into photoshop and refined all the details and the lighting. I really dig the architecture i came up with. All in all i’m very happy with the outcome. Thanks a lot to ciprian dobra at editura alexandria. He was very helpful regarding the background information of the book. He knew exactly what he wanted, which made it a lot easier to get the project done.

Sojourn Of Faith

SOJOURN OF FAITH

This is the basic cover art i created for the deus sceptrum ‘sojourn of faith’ album, which will be available soon. Target of this commission was it to create a kind of emotional lonely feeling even in a city where you’re probably surrounded by living things. Dark and depressing. Main character in this scene is the bridge that builds the key between our lonely person and the city. I guess we would love to know what the person is thinking. Even i don’t know.

Technically it’s photoshop all the way through. Photo plates, painting and manipulation.

Big thanks to Julia for playing the model ;p and to Nuremberg and Frankfurt. Awesome cities. Also thanks to Daniel from Deus Sceptrum.
