expose 5
newsYesterday was a special day for me. Even if lots of things are not going too well recently. Yesterday was special. I received my copy of the latest book in ballistic publishing’s exposé series. The cool thing about it is that my painting. ‘the falls’, is featured in this book’s matte painting category. The sheer amount of talent in that book really blows me away and makes me really feel like an artist. There truly is no better book for digital art enthusiasts available out there. I got myself the leather limited edition. Just because the leather edition for artists, who made it in the book, is even more special than the leather edition available on their site. So there are only veeery few of them on this planet. The book came with certificate and everything… it looks delicious and i could fall in love with it. Seriously!

I also recognized a lot of amazing work in the book that i earlier saw on communities like cgsociety or deviantart. Lots of fellow artists made it into the book and i want to congratulate them on this occasion.

Now it’s time to feel a little bit proud. It was a long road…

TRILITH – 3D Animation

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

3d matte painting study Here we are for another fine animation of one of my paintings. Once again a lot of work went into it and i hope it makes the experience/feeling of the painting itself a bit more like it represents a window to a different world. It’s not as spectacular as the w.o.l.f animation but nonetheless cool looking. I also took the opportunity to make a single video for the w.o.l.f project too. Find the link below…

D³SCR!PTION

Imagine a distant planet or parallel world where there is only forests, mountains and exotic animals. And all life springs off mysterious mile high mountains that can bind the energy of the planets inner forces to create an ecology that is unique throughout the whole known universe.

TECHN!CAL DETA!LS

Here we have another digital matte painting. This time i worked a lot with photos and less with 3d or painting. It was quite a task to get all the photos look right with the lighting etc. I don’t think i succeeded 100%. Nonetheless it’s, for me, a quite nice result. Something different for my gallery.

THE CITY OF LIGHTS

D³SCR!PTION

This one was actually planned to be a collab piece. Unfortunately nothing happened. Even with the lost collab i thought it could become a cool piece if i would finish it up alone. So i did. There is no big story behind it. I just thought i would play a bit with composition and lighting.

TECHN!CAL DETA!LS

As you can see it is a not too detailed painting. In terms of photorealism. Most of you know that i never seriously try to work photorealistic. With this pic my only goal was to create a good composition and a striking lighting. I maintained a concept art like look since i was thinking that it could help the overall atmosphere to come together.

D³SCR!PTION

No big story behind this one. I just needed something new to make and here we have the result of 2 weeks of work. I’m still surprised how good it feels to create pictures like that one. Once you’re done with the picture, it’s like you let the people look into the photoalbum of your imagination. Skim through each page and discover new worlds.

A little explanation to the title. When i started the painting i did not have that ruin sit on that mountain thingie there. The mountain then looked much like a wolf teeth peeking into the sky. I never got away from that title… so i left it. A friend of mine made fun of the title and named it “World Of Lurking Faeries”. Bullseye.

TECHN!CAL DETA!LS

Once again i worked with digital matte painting techniques. Lots of photo reference. The waterfalls were created with 3dsmax. It was just a test i did. The render suited the painting… so i used the waterfalls in it.
