SITTING ON A RAINBOW

At first i thought about making this shot a captured beauty part. But i decided against it with the perfect title i found for it.

ALAGAESIA PRIME

D³SCR!PTION

Well it was always my dream to create pictures like this one. No matter how and with what technique. I tried it with my well known terragen/photoshop technique and i created ‘a new hope’ [link] . Then i took a trip into digital painting. Inspired by the works of a gary tonge aka *ANTIFAN-REAL or ~dylancole it’s what you see here in this artwork what i always wanted to do from the beginning of my very first looks into photoshop a few yrs ago. ‘A trip to the city’ [link] (a collab with =Bennybeee ) was the first try to paint some signs of a cityscape. Successful i think. Then i tried a full size painting… 5000px wide… ‘dawn of hope’ [link] , an homage to ‘a new hope’ and maybe another step into a new direction for me. Now alagaesia prime was created through painting techniques too… and the productivity was awesome. In comparison to my terragen/photoshop technique i really got some speed into my creative process. That’s really what i liked the most while creating this piece… i had the chance to work fast and efficient.

WHERE FAERIES GET BORN

Wednesday, October 26th, 2005

Definitely one of the most magic shots i ever captured. The whole atmosphere was breathtaking and i was lucky enough to take some shots. Chance like that are pretty rare around here so i did my best to take as many shots as possible. That’s all what i have to tell here… so… enjoy the shot!

Captured in RAW format without manipulations of any kind.

A NEW HOPE

D³SCR!PTION

Micael New woke up at 7 o’clock on this morning, alarmed by the radio. Planetary control was requesting report. Micael stumbled into the cockpit cursing himself for not being awake to receive the call. His career as freighter pilot made him a bit lazy and he blamed the rotten jump control console for not waking him up when they entered normal space. When he reached the cockpit he saw that wonderful, window-filling orange glowing planet in front of his ship. The sun just came up on the horizon. Holding one hand in front of the eyes so as to not get blinded he reached for the console to activate the windows uv filter. After giving report to the planetary orbit security he activated auto-pilot to enter the line of ships that were waiting for permission to land. Micael got up from his seat and back into the personal cabin to wake up his wife and daughter. He was very excited and gave a kiss to his wife and daughter and told them that they finally arrived. His wife gave him a warm smile as he headed back into the cockpit to watch the landing procedure and to handle incoming requests. Without interruptions the auto-pilot moved the ship into the atmosphere of the planet. Micael took the ship intern communicator to tell his wife and daughter that they entered the atmosphere now – “please come up here, this is a view you have never seen before” he said. As they were entering the ports authority zone micael began to smile as he first looked over that grand view and then into the stunned faces of the rest of the family. “Welcome to port hope on planet myrana calida… myrana calina… our new home”.

TECHN!CAL DETA!LS

first of all thanks to =Cocktales – that texture works wonderful!

the creation of this piece went a little different direction than the usual ways i create my stuff with. a few weeks ago i got myself a gfxtablet and took this piece as a chance to make myself familiar with digital paintings. some elements in this one are painted and combined with my manip techniques. i can say i learned a lot by creating this piece. the work with a pen made it much much easier to work out the building textures or to add freighter and fighters. the part i’m most proud of is the dock in that wall. it’s perfectly the direction i want to go with my technique. a mix of manipulations and paintings. that’s all i can say. this piece was a lot of work and i hope you can enjoy viewing it as much as i enjoyed creating it.

One of my favourite shots in the series. I really dig the colors in that one.

THE WALL

Monday, August 8th, 2005

This piece is concept art for an futuristic online rpg that is still in development. Check out conflictomega.com for more information.

D³SCR!PTION

THE WALL – the first kind of apocalyptical piece i’ve ever done. also the first concept art job i’ve ever done. what do we look at in that pic.

this huge gigantic wall is hundreds of kilometers long. it is there to protect a certain part of land. a part of land that is secure. everything outside the wall is hazardous. no life. only a desert of death. toxic air floating around. nothing can survive out there. remnants of war not long ago. to the people with thin secured area the wall is one of the most important institutions. the wall must hold at all costs. the toxic air is slowly working on the materials though. no one knows how long the complex will survive. while scientists work hard to invent new protection methods. we also see 2 large buidlings. one within and one outside the wall. within the wall it’s a generator. generator 56 in our case. the building is approx. 600-800m high and full of technologie. these buildings keep the wall alive. keep all the lights glowing. the other building outside the wall is an immense research & security complex. from there it is possible to search for a solution against the toxic environment outside the wall. the most scientists that work there live in thet building too. there are working and living areas.

this building also contains drones/probes that can be sent out to gather information or simply to patrol a sector for the security division. the drones unfortunately aren’t very flexible. due to the very hazardous air no live radio transmitions are possible. that’s a reason why the drones must be connected to the tower all the time. a lot of tests with new models failed, so they still have to rely on the wired ones. aside the scientistic purpose these drones are also used for security issues. only god knows what creatures the wasted lands created over the time. protected with, the newest laser and projectile, weapon technology the drones are able to handle and terminate all dangers.

there is one single advantage of the wasted lands. the scientists found a way to use the toxic air and water to gain energy from it. the strong lightsources on the wall are generators too. much smaller than the gen56 towers generators. but still big enough to work out well. the strong lights are produced because of the transformation process. the energies are too much to handle for the smaller transformation generators. so some of the gained energy must be released to not overheat the structure.

this concludes the explanation of the important parts. hope you enjoy the pic as much as i do.

This is just a macro experiment. I tried to play with shadow, light and structure.
